We Can Relate to Resignation Superman by Big Head Todd and The Monsters
What a great name for a band. Big Head Todd And the Monsters. Great but if they stunk I wouldn’t remember them. I remember them so great name for a great band.
They haven’t had a song on radio since 1998. However their big songs are excellent and you’ll want to hear it again and again.
The band starts in 1986 in Colorado formed by Todd Mohr. So he got the top billing. They tour and put out records for years before they get radio airplay in 1993. Lucky time because radio was looking for what was “alternative.” Small bands with a not-hard- rock but not a ballad-sound got airplay.
Again wouldn’t care unless the band was good. “Bittersweet” starts with bass thumping and a guitar noodling. The song is a mid-tempo swaying and rocking song. Todd has a deep voice that can yell without being loud and he can sing. The next big song, “Broken Hearted Savior” starts with guitar and drum. It’s still mid-tempo and has an easy to remember chorus. Great mid-song guitar solo. It will stay with you after the song is done.
There were more releases in a couple of years. My favorite of their songs is “Resignation Superman.” It’s a little faster than the other two songs. His voice is smoother. The lyrics say it’s Superman getting tired of constantly saving the world that keeps needing to be saved. The song works because we feel like that sometimes. Maybe we work until tired and there is more work to do. Maybe we feel that way about outside of work things. There is a break in the song where Tom says that we need to believe in you now because we are suffering. So while we can relate to Superman getting tired of the constant fight, we need to believe in a Superman that is still fighting. It’s a brilliant song on so many levels. Not to mention the music is superb. You’ll want to play this over and over.
They haven’t been on national radio since 1998 but they have been performing under different names. They have 11 albums of music. They are on tour through 2026 according to their website. They have a few stops in the Northeast, but they are busy and big in the mid-west of America.
