Sleeping Satellite by Tasmin Archer- One Hit Memories

The one hit wonder is the flavor of a time. The big artists have catalogues and maybe you have the albums. But when that one hit wonder’s one song comes on, you stop and remember how you loved that song and when you heard it.

Tasmin Archer had the song, “Sleeping Satellite.” She had several hits in her native England, but one hit in America. In fall of 1992, the song comes out and gets a lot of play on alternative radio. It’s difficult to pigeonhole this mid-tempo song into a genre so at the time, a listener may have heard it on adult contemporary, alternative and pop radios. I looked it up and am very surprised that the song hit 32 on the pop charts. One of those songs that felt bigger than it was.

There was a radio station in the area that played that song around 10pm every night and at some point in the middle of the night. Just an easy song to relax to. Every night.

I can’t find any new music after 2006. I can’t find information on where Tasmin Archer went in recent years. No recent concerts. However the video for “Sleeping Satellite” is available to watch.

That song still holds up. It holds up because she can sing, the song has a good melody and after it’s over it’s easy to remember and sing along later. It’s not nostalgia.
