Mix Tape's History Remix

Peace Sign Nostalgia

It seems that there is music nostalgia for two decades ago. In the 1970s there was 1950s nostalgia evidenced by the return of Chuck Berry and Elvis in the Top 10. The 1980s were good for 1960s acts like Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and The Monkees. The 1990s were good for reunions of 1970s acts.

War saw a resurgence. “Low Rider” became a hit again. War released the album, “Peace Sign.” The album was the first non greatest hit album in years. The album had strong opening songs, “Peace Sign” and “East LA.” “Light in the window-the smuggler” featured plenty of their harmonica sound. War had changed several times over the years in members and genre. Two original members had passed away by that time.

“Peace Sign” was a mix of everything. It was a solid entry in their discography with plenty of publicity. For all the hype, “Peace Sign” wasn’t a big seller. It surprised me because it was so publicized. I found articles about War and the renewed radio interest. The tour was a big seller.

People discovered why this band was so big for so many years. They mixed different genres and made it work. Their prior songs became the sounds of summer. Their greatest hits became big sellers again.

WAR showed to be timeless even when they weren’t the biggest selling band.
