10 Things that Happened at the Monmouth County Library Book fair

I had a table at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan NJ on October 4th. Here’s how the day went.

  1. The room was huge. Plenty of room to walk around and talk. They just renovated a few years ago and the main meeting rooms are bright and airy.

  2. The speakers were in another meeting room, but I got to sneak in. It was a balancing act of watching my table and listening in on lectures from authors I follow.

  3. M Flagg knows a lot about publishing. She did a presentation about publishing. I think it surprised some and enthused others. I was surprised by the statistics of how many books are published in a single day.

  4. Jon Gibbs can inspire a crowd. He asked for book ideas and people just called out ideas for books. He talked characters and the crowd called out their opinions. He can make a crowd seem intimate.

  5. Another day I went to a book fair to sell books and bought more books than I sold.

  6. Writers are fun when they get together. We yelled across the room while carrying on normal conversations. We told stories of good events and bad.

  7. I met authors from around the state. That writer who I follow on Facebook, I finally met.

  8. Everyone puts up pictures on social media as things happen. While I posted a picture of my table, I saw posts of other tables. I got a “like” instantly.

  9. New ideas for table design and swag. I wanted to see what grabs attention. There is no one answer. Some tables had videos running on a laptop running on a loops. Some tables had decorations. There were banners. There were giveaways.

  10. I can’t wait for the next event. I may see someone you there.
