It's A Band Not Just a Guy

In the 1990s, there was a band, Del Amitri. They were big on alternative radio, but you would think they were a rock- pop band. You would also think they were huge from alternative radio and prime time MTV airplay. They did hit the American Top 40 a few times. They weren’t the biggest band of the 1990s though.

The first time I heard them was with the song, “Kiss this Thing Goodbye.” In 1992 the song, “Always the Last to Know” was constantly on the radio. Their music was similar to the Gin Blossoms, who were also breaking out at the time.

A few years later comes, “Roll to Me.” Their songs defied time and could play one after another without feeling dated. These songs may not feel dated today.

I thought Del Amitri was a guy that fronted the band. It was actually a band started by a guy named Justin. Justin Colley. That was a surprise. The name was  play on the name, Dimitri. That’s all it was. No Del in the band at all.

They had records through the 1990s. They went on hiatus in 2002 until 2014. They still get together and tour right up to 2024. The band, not just a guy.
