Julian Lennon's Voice

For several blogs, I’ve been writing about Julian Lennon albums that came out years ago. I bought those albums and thought Lennon was a really talented artist. He had a different voice and took on different topics. He wrote songs about the environment, being different, space, conformity, positive feelings. Many music listeners wanted him to sound like his famous father, but he had different tastes.

It’s that shadow of his father that pigeonholed him in America.

The album “Help Yourself” didn’t sell well in America but it sold around the rest of the world. He toured the world thanks to his successful music career.

The sales of albums in other countries brought two new careers. “Saltwater” from “Help Yourself” was a good song about the environment. It was a Top 10 song in Australia. Other than Midnight Oil, no one did pop songs about the environment.

There was another event that would change Lennon.

Lennon has said in interviews that he was given a white feather from members of the Mirning Tribe of Australia while he was on tour. Record companies wanted the second coming of The Beatles. Lennon didn’t give the record label what they wanted, but The Mirning heard Julian’s voice as an artist.

Lennon pulled away from pop star. He didn’t even show his face on his album covers anymore. He stayed behind his songs, hoping people would hear the artist behind these songs.

Julian Lennon took the feather given to him as inspiration to use his voice not to make record companies money. His voice can be used to make a better planet and inspire others to do the same.

He spent the last decade, writing children’s books about the environment. He became a professional photographer with an eye for the deserts of Africa. He shows the dramatic and everyday life of animals and people. He produced documentaries about the world.
