Mix Tape's History Remix

Editing old papers

Today I went through old manuscript notes. I’m writing some new Mix Tape stories and thought I could incorporate some old ideas into this story.
I threw out around 40 pages of stories, half done ideas, original names of characters, and just cliché storylines that wouldn’t sell.
At one time I thought I had some sell-able ideas in those pages. Now I read it and it’s just bland.
I spent an hour re-reading pages not sure of what bothers me more. The pages that were unusable? The time spent typing those unusable pages? It sat in my desk for 5 years only to read it now and realize it was unusable? No one else told me so much of this stuff was unusable?
It's probably for another blog, why didn't my fellow writers in writer's groups tell me that I had a lot of un-usable material?
I can’t salvage this because a lot of it is past tense, involves webcams, bands that broke up, ideas I saw on TV or read somewhere else.
It’s a bummer to throw out so much stuff, but it had to be done. Hopefully I can proceed with better stories without these old ideas sitting around.
